One of the bands I tour with, Black Tusk, includes a carpenter, a landscaper and a bartender within its ranks — all of whom are heavily tattooed and terribly well-read. My friend Elizabeth Cline just published a book on sustainable fashion practices — and plays in Mortals, a brutal all-female sludge band based in Brooklyn. I’m writing this piece for NPR, and just got a massive tattoo of a goat’s head on my right arm in tribute to Swedish black metal gods Bathory.

I know I’m old because reading this made me want to throw up.
“Heavily tattooed and incredibly well read”
Jesus.
Get off my lawn.
While you are trying to be ironic I really want these little fuckers off my lawn
The only cabana with Meet The Press on the TV
Kaimal Mark II Lens, Blanko Film, No Flash, Taken with HipstamaticOur cabana at Palms Place in Las Vegas.
Kaimal Mark II Lens, Blanko Film, No Flash, Taken with HipstamaticFor the first eight years of our marriage, [Michelle and I] were paying more in student loans than what we were paying for our mortgage. So we know what this is about.
And we were lucky to land good jobs with a steady income. But we only finished paying off our student loans—check this out, all right, I’m the President of the United States—we only finished paying off our student loans about eight years ago.

”I’m the President of the United States”
I wonder how many times he had to say that before he stopped feeling self- conscience about it.
Via pleasure in the detailsMy favorite documentary is Idiocracy.
First they came for the newspapers,
and I didn’t speak out because who the fuck reads newspapers.
Then they came for the weekly magazines,
and I didn’t speak out because I don’t have the time to invest in a three page article.
Then they came for the TV!,
Lord no, not the TV! FUCK!
“Only hang around people that are positive and make you feel good. Anybody who doesn’t make you feel good kick them to the curb and the earlier you start in your life the better. The minute anybody makes you feel weird and non included or not supported, you know, either beat it or tell them to beat it.”
I couldn’t agree more. My teenagers often make me feel weird and not included. I’m on the four year kick-them-out plan. I’ll report back on my progress.

Insert Platitude Here!
Something very simple; yet something very deep. Perhaps a unique way to look at a common problem, but don’t offer any solutions. It should let people know that being good is…umm…good!!! Oh, and you should cut this out and tape it onto your computer to remind you that being good is. Better yet, find a grainy black and white photograph and use this to caption it and post it to facebook, twitter or tumblr.
- Someone from an oppressed minority who sees things more clearly EVEN though he/she has less than we do. No. Let’s go with an author that had his/her shit so together they killed themselves rather than to go on living in such an unjust world
These are 10 steps I try to live by, but I’ve been too lazy and complacent lately. Here’s a reminder.

Godless heathens politely request that Rick Perry stop campaigning.
When I saw Rick Perry’s anti-thinking gay ad my reaction was something like, “what a fucking fuck and fuck all of those mother fuckers who fuckingly support this fucker”. It is good to see a slightly more articulate reaction even if it isn’t as succinct as mine.

Or just a consoling boyfriend. Perhaps he is just telling her a secret…maybe he forgot to wear underwear that day. Maybe you can’t explain life’s intracacies away with “The Platitude of the Day” and call it therapy.
Then again maybe you can…
